What is angel wing clam?

Angel wing clam, also known as the smooth clam or geoduck, is a species of large saltwater clam native to the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada. They are known for their elongated siphons which can grow up to several feet in length.

The clam has a white to light brown shell with concentric rings and can reach up to 15 inches in length. They live buried in the sand or mud of intertidal and shallow subtidal zones, where they feed on plankton and organic matter.

Angel wing clams are commercially harvested for their meat, which is considered a delicacy and is often used in sushi and sashimi. They are also valued for their high protein content and unique flavor.

Due to overharvesting and habitat destruction, angel wing clams are now considered a species of concern and there are regulations in place to protect and manage their populations.
